Colorado community associations need to pay attention to the growing number of electric vehicles (EVs) being driven today. According to a new report from Pike Research, annual worldwide sales of EVs will reach 3.8 million by 2020. Owners of these EVs will need an external power station to charge their vehicles. And, under SB13-126, Colorado community associations cannot deny an owner the right to install that external power station.
With the passage of SB13-126, Owners have the right to install Level 1 or Level 2 EV charging stations in certain locations in the community, at the Owner’s expense, subject to additional conditions of the Association. Be sure to review What to Do About Electric Vehicle Charging Station Requests? to understand and comply with the new law regarding EVs, and to get information on financial incentives available to associations for installing EV Charging Systems.
