The Secretary of State recently announced that they have added password protection for business owners and filers to safeguard against identity theft.   When association’s file their annual reports online, filers now have the option to create their own password.

As we previously discussed in our July 2010 blog, the state originally discovered a criminal scheme which targeted businesses throughout Colorado.  The crime involved manipulation of business records by changing a business’s information on the Secretary of State’s website in order to imply that they have a legitimate stake in the company.

Current business filers can now add password protection to their filings by going to their business’s summary page and clicking “Set Up Secure Business Filing” from the options on the bottom of the page.  From there, simply request a PIN that will be mailed to the address already on file. New businesses registering can set-up a password as part of their registration.
