As COVID-19 continues its course, state health orders still limit public gatherings and how many individuals can be together indoors. Additionally, there are still plenty of people who do not feel comfortable attending public gatherings or are in a high risk category and simply cannot take the chance to be out in public surrounded by others. These circumstances have caused many associations to conduct their meetings electronically.

Whether a community is using Zoom or GoToMeeting, or some other virtual meeting platform, the current reality is that most meetings are being conducted virtually. This includes board meetings, annual meetings, budget ratification meetings, and the like. But oddly enough many associations are “winging it” and not using virtual meeting policies. What is your association doing?

If you’re not using a virtual meeting policy, you may not be conducting your virtual meetings consistently and in accordance with legal requirements.  Do you have a uniform method for handling proxies or checking participants in? How do you handle voting? A virtual meeting policy can help set a uniform process for all these, and other actions during your virtual meetings.
