As you should all know by now, HB 1278 is in full swing. The bill created an HOA Information & Resource Center, which is now being run by new HOA Information Officer Aaron Acker.

As reported in Side Streets, a Colorado Springs Gazette blog dedicated to neighborhood and HOA-related stories, Mr. Acker recently spoke with the Southern CO Chapter of CAI. The Center, Acker explains, is “strictly an information-gathering agency and resource center for homeowners and associations.” He was clear to remind people that his office is not a regulatory body and did not mediate disputes.

Acker told his audience that part of the Center’s work is to track homeowner complaints in an effort to identify trends. “I’m encouraging homeowners to become active in their associations and talk with their associations.”

Will this information-gathering help? Since the Center is simply gathering information and not, at least at this point, verifying any of the complaints submitted, is the information reliable? While one of the Center’s goals may be to better community associations by identifying trends based on legitimate complaints, we hope the trends and information produced will be just that,…legitimate.

See the Division of Real Estate’s FAQ for more information on the HOA officer’s role on the tracking of inquiries and complaints.
