Approximately 20% of Americans live in common interest communities in the United States. According to CAI statistics, approximately 64% of homeowners are satisfied with their associations and 26% of homeowners are neutral. This only leaves approximately 10% of homeowners that may not be happy with their community associations. Notwithstanding these statistics, if one were to compile media clips and publications pertaining to associations in the United States, positive stories about associations would be few, while the vast majority of stories would focus on the “evil” associations kicking little old ladies out of their homes and denying families with sick kids the right to put up playhouses. Join us for this presentation in which we will try to unravel the mystery of associations in the media to find both explanations and solutions to this phenomenon. We will also provide you with tools to handle the media when it calls you for a statement.
